Marcin Kowalik's painting is first of all an intellectual game between the viewer and the painting. He has been consistently constructing structures of his artistic imagination for many years.
The thematic layer of Kowalik's interests is encapsulated in several cycles that he has been continually carrying out – The Space of Travel, Landscape in a Box, The Unknown Kingdom, Back to Basics and The Mirror Phase. In terms of the formal aspect of his works, they can be described as spatial, often illusory geometrical structures in which sophisticated colour is embedded.
A painting is mainly the source of the search. While painting, Kowalik incessantly studies the effect of particular elements of a painting. Trying to put himself in the viewer's position, he hold an on-going artistic discussion with what is created on the canvas.
